Sephrick's Beginner's Guide to Gridania

Contents [hide]

Welcome to Gridania

To the east, these bushwhacked boondocks await adventures. Beneath the balmy shade of the forest's canopy, Gridania is at one with nature. Finding a balance to ward off the Greenwrath, The Black Shroud serves as a natural fortification, despite it containing a surplus of dangers for those not prepared to take arms against that which lays in wait.

In your first cutscene, you'll come across two mysterious characters that fall from a crashing airship named Yda and Papalymo. Speak to them twice and afterward, help them battle some wolves. After this, you'll be escorted to the magnificent city of Gridania.

Moving Forward

Over the river a through the woods, to Gridania you've come. You'll find yourself just beyond the gates of the arboreal haven. Take some time to speak with some of the NPCs hanging around.

When you're ready to move forward, speak with Lonsygg and he will escort you to the Carline Canopy, where you will meet Mother Miounne.

Notable NPCs

There are a plethora of non-player characters living in Gridania. What follows are some of the more notable of those characters to help you in getting started.

Quest-related and Guildleve NPCs will typically be your starting point for some of the major quests while the vendors are a good place to check should you be looking for arms or tools for other classes.

Guild halls are valuable for both resources and information, but there are only one of each guild in all of the starting cities. If you're looking to start a new class, you'll need to purchase a main hand weapon of that class. Be sure to check out these guild halls for all your class needs.

Weapons

Gridania is a different breed from Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah. Where the other two have specific NPCs which sell weapons, Granania's is spread over a few. Twyrmoht sells archery needs and other projectiles. Osgar in the Carpentry Guild sells the Conjurer arm. Zelia in the Rosewood Stalls sells the Gladiator and Marauder arms while Wulfthryth sells the Pugilist and Thaumaturge arms.

Finding the markets

Square-Enix has managed to hide the Market Ward. With no auction house, this is your main means of shopping around for new wares and other items for sale by players through their non-playable retainers.

To get there, go to the area circled on the map and move until you see a speech bubble with an exclamation point. When you see this, it means there is something nearby with which you may interact.

Open your menu and select the Market Ward option at the top. You will be given a choice of multiple wards, select your desired ward and start shopping!

In order to see what wares a retainer has on bazaar, target one, open your menu again and where you selected the Market Ward option earlier, you will now see a "browse" option.
