Renown gear is gear that requires a certain renown rank to equip. It is usually purchased from vendors. This gear is itemized for RvR combat, and may not have the perfect stat itemization for your class. Mythic has stated that the primary purpose for most renown gear is to allow players who focus primarily on RvR (and not PvE) to have competitive gear. However, at the top end, some of the best gear in the game is renown-oriented (although this gear is dropped from city sieges and not purchased).

In patch 1.05, Mythic added Renown vendors for each tier to the Captial Cities! No more tedious flying to every zone and trying to search for a Keep that your Realm controls.
