Well I read here all the comments about coming in groups of 45-50's and such, and I can see why. I am a 38 Pally and well, I can only get as far as the door, the swordfish pokes can be a tad heinous when you agro like 4 of em.
The main reason for this post is to express severe dissatisfaction with the cultural armor augment stuff.
As a Dwarf, this is where you have to come to get your expert pattern book. Kill 40 Mermaids? Was someone smoking on this one? I mean really, I can't even find enough jade shards to make augments for journeyman, now I have to kill 40 mermaids that average 40th level? To get expert pattern book, yes the drops are more common for the augments, but by the time you do all this, the armor is basically obsolete and you have bits and pieces of stuff. Not well thought out at all, the whole cultural armor idea needs to be completly revamped. I have spent countless days hunting for shards .. got one. Goblins, Tentacle Terrors (Nice Knockbacks btw). So I took advice of someone and they said well how bout just go for expert augments. Ok I tried that, now look 40 mermaids to kill, when I can wear the armor at what 36th? When I can't even kill one to get the augments? BackAssWards. Anyway very cool zone, but highly dangerous to lower levels.
Note: The comment below about swims with fishes. Enough said about mermaids.

Very sorry, after reading the post I might clarify that. These USELESS buffs need to be cast 1st 'BEFORE' EB & the other buffs you don't want dispelled. Dispelling works in the same order you were buffed. 1st buffed=1st dispelled provided it hasn't worn off on its own. Sorry for vagueness. Good luck all.

Hello all, just a quick reminder tip after reading all these posts about EB getting dispelled and people drowning in combat. During combat with mobs that like to dispell give them crap to dispell. LOL. What I'm saying is before entering Kedge have useless buffs cast on the group..ie. see invis etc. buffs that last a while but have no real purpose except to hold space for dispelling. When you are dispelled THESE spells will be removed first while EB and your other buffs will remain hopefully long enough to renew these sacraficial spells that hold no use in this dungeon. Good luck and hope this tip helps out.

If you're a melee fighter like myself, you may want to practice underwater fighting beofre coming here, something as simple as fighting the pond sturgeons in LOIO to get the feel of how high above/below you can can hit them ,and get used to controlling your position. It's a little tricky. Suggest first person view, it will help you to see how high up or down you're pointing.
Also, if you don't have an EB item, keep an eye on your EB... first raid I was on to this zone with my guild, we lost more people to drowning than to mobs! Ironically, one of the people who died was a mage who had just given me 8 summoned waterstones (but apparently forgot to keep one for himself!)

They Revamped this zone, entrance mobs drop a 20/15 rogue dagger a 90/27 2hs procs CH pally sword procs ALOT some people are soloing Aten Ha Ra with it. it also makes you immune yo every spell in the game including DT. theres also Ultra Gigantic Staff of Slaughter right click manaburn with flowing thought 32k unsta cast insta recast all/all and adds 32k mana. also drops cloth shawl with so much ac that it covers up the screen. Phinny is no triggered has 1hp and doesnt fight back. the entrance mobs have 4hp and dont fight back. the boss has 90 quadrillion hp flurrys and rampages every round for 1200. he drops every item in the game even gm items. when you kill him you turn into kerafyrm and your chat bar is spammed with I LIKE CHEESE 100 times.

I just left kedge and thought I'd let you all know exactly what mobs you can do what to. Phinny can't be mez'd but can be slowed. The swirlspine seahorses cannot be mez'd but can be slowed. The swirlspine gaurdians can be mez'd but cannot be slowed. I hope this helps. I got ate a couple times figuring this out. apparently phinny don't like rapture.

I've heard on other websites of a mob actually called a Kedge, some sort of squid. Does this mob actually exist, or was it taken out after beta or something?

Phinny himself is the last of the Kedge, a race of sentient underwater creatures whose home was Kedge Keep.
I seem to recall talk of possibly adding a lost tribe of kedge and possibly even making kedge a playable race (requiring enduring breath items when *not* in the water) but I don't remember if that was just players or if someone from VI was involved. Maybe an old Ask the Archmage column?

Kedge Keep...wow. This is one of the more interesting zones in EQ. Underwater fighting is very nice. The mobs are hard but well worth the effort. Decent experience throughout, and the named mobs do indeed drop nice loot. This zone is dangerous however. Make sure you have a map and know what you are doing/pulling. I would not try to solo any mobs in this zone until 37-40 depending on your class. Most but not all mobs can't see through invis. For a safe hunting spot to pull to, try the second floor down in the east room. No mobs spawn here and you can pull from the large room to in here. Word of caution, don't use AE spells as killer mobs are below this room and will come charging up at you. Cauldronbubble at lvl 49 will not be pleased when you try to hit some fish with an AE spell and he gets stung. Anything below the 2nd floor requires a higher lvl group from about lower 40's to high 40's. Also, some mobs can cast dispell on you and you will lose your enduring breath and will drown. Mostly the named mobs are the casters, however mermaids can cast root etc. If organized this zone can provide hours of good exp, decent-awesome loot, and lots of fun. Enjoy!

Link to this post 1 reply
No hammerheads are not usually near zone entrance. They were probably trained there before you arrived and were waiting around. The zone entrance is fairly safe to enter. Mobs will not wander into the little hall. The 1st floor mobs stay in the large room area. Recommend pulling your mobs into the little hall.

Yes, there is one cauldron hammerhead that spawns at the zone. I logged on my bard to fetch a corpse with no one else in the zone the entire time. Nothing at the zone was up as I came in. After retrieving it, go figure, the hammerhead just happens to be waiting at the zone. Currently I'm waiting for him to Leave so I can get a rez.
Not much see's invis here. Estrella does, Phinny does, as do their respective guards. Nothing else I've conned on my way around has.
And if you're doing a raid for druid epic. Do yourself a favor and do it with as few people as you know you safely can. It's exponentially slower when you have to stop every 2 seconds to invis someone again or succor because something aggro'd.

Everyone leaves Kedge with a high swimming. I went in last night with a swimming of 65 (I suck). Few hours in here and its 150ish now.
In a large, multigroup raid there is PLENTY of downtime. Find a corner to swim into, turn auto run on and continue chatting or whatever. Will get an increase every few minutes.
There are certain places that look as if they are designed for this. Will be a "safe" hallway with two pillars very near each other, just enough to keep you from going left to right as you autorun.
Remember, won't get increases just sitting, have to be moving.
and on more thing, can't move backwards at all, kinda takes a sec to get used to.
And finally point, if get disorientated, hit the Home key to center yourself again.

If they do it's not the ones used for the Warrior Epic. And if it is then the loot tables are screwed and you better get over there quickly.
I didn't see this creature on your list. The tainted is part of the druid epic quest. Conned yellow to me at level 50. The tainted hits for 141. When the tainted dies, it IMMEDIATELY spawns the corrupted seahorse which drops the piece needed for the quest. The corrupted was red to me at 50. It hits for 150+ and will complete heal if given any opportunity to do so. We killed two corrupted in about 2 hours of camping with 2 groups of level 50s.

Our group too stella and undertow as well. Very doable with one good group. No chanter (woulda helped for adds).

Well, the alliance on Tarew marr was suposto raid Kedge today, but all the guilds but mine wussed out because there was no 49+ cleric (pfft) We had 1 full group, consisted of 3 mages 2 clerics and me, a warrior. We just about went everywhere, didnt even want to try phinny though, we took out Undertow--who is a wuss--and then gave up after a while and haveing Undertow on a timer heh, we will be going back tomarrow! the EXP was amazeing, even though 2 of our mages are 54, i am 46, and in a few hours am 3 yella bubbles in. Hopefully tomarrow i will get a hammerhead helm *drool* them are nice
One Mob the Beastiary didn't mention is the Ravenous Stilleto Fang. Although I'm not certain on exact level, it is at least level 44, and likely to be level 44-46, though it has a weak attack of about 94 max hit. It also has frezied agro, but does not see invis. It looks like a Large Piranha.
Yes this place is all underwater, but saying Iksars will own this place is totally unlikely. I guess the 150 swimming they have, but thats easily acquired, and besides, down here its Wizards, Mages, and mostly Druids that 'own' down here. Wizards of course for quick casting nukes and evacs, Mages because they can summon unlimited waterstones which you can right click for instant enduring breath, and druids can evac, enduring breath, and charm most creatures down here when things get bad. It got to the point where my druid's charm was more reliable than the chanter my group would usually hunt with...not to mention that once, when things got really bad there, I was able to charm Cauldronboil with Alure of the Wild and hold him for a rather long time, had him and the mage pet kill the locals, while we all meditated, then I broke charm, snared him and we kited him in a small radius.

For breath without fishscales, don't forget bards and necros. The other thing you need when underwater is stamina (yellow bar) restoration. Bards and healers can do that.

You can zone in with DMF, but strangely enough DMF cannot be cast inside Kedge Keep. Zoning to refresh DMF on the group(s) might be inpractical/impossible.
I have done bard EB duty on the cleric epic camp in Lake Rathe. It works, just have to remind people to stay in song range and not forget to play it continuously. An EB caster per group, self EB when possible, summoned waterstones or even permanent EB items should be in reach for safety. Playing EB might also takes the bard from crowd control, if he should be doing it. And don't let the bard die, could be ugly.
Fish scales are common drop off fish mobs in Kedge Keep, so this shouldn't be the problem.
Stamina regeneration should go to the bard. Could either play jaxan's (lvl 3stamina song), which is pretty damn good at that (twisting it every 6th or even 9th tick is plenty). Or he could go instrumental and play the cantata of soothing with a lute (lvl 34 song;hp, mana, stamina regeneration).
At level 55 (which I am not right now) I would probably play the cantata of replentishment, if stamina should be a problem then.

Bards and most healers can by use of stam buffs, jaxan's jig o' vigor (bard), or invigorate. Pretty common spells for caster classes.

hello i was wondering what lvl i should be to get in a group for a chance on the kedge robe.
I was under the assuption that he looked like the Mermaids but I've been reading that he is giant squid looking thing. Just curious if anyone has a picture of him.

From what I;ve seen, he looks like a walking fish.

Phinigel looks rather odd. He has a fish-like head, with massive eyes, and a sort of vacent expression, piranha teeth, and really really long arms with webbed hands. From the waist down, though, he seems to have tenticles, like a squids, and he's wearing a rather nifty looking orange robe.

you can get them in oot from the mermaids there. They are about 12th lev or so and an easy kill
are the mermaids here where I would get a mermaid scale for the stein of ulissa mage focus item quest?

We got mermaid scales last night from a mermaid in the room where the goldenhaired mermaid spawns for the Raincaller quest. The mermaid spawned on the rock in the middle of the room - there are 3 main spawns in here about 17-18 minutes on spawn times.

Does all the stuff here see invis? If not, what doesn't see invis? I hear there are only three things in the zone that do, but I would like to be sure

I have been in Kedge for 4 days - about 20 hours played in the first room and pulls from the pillar room - I made 4 levels in that time (36-39) and am halfway through 39. This is by far the best experience at this level in the game. I have been in a 3 person group with an enchanter and a cleric.
who drops this item?....what level ??

A mob not listed in the Beastiary, The Frenzied Cauldron Shark. Probably level 49, not sure though, was blue at 63 and not any tougher then Boil or Bubble. He spawns randomly in place of one of the 3 sharks in the room you swim up into on the way to Phinny's lair. Just before the seahorse Pat room. It is his rare item, but worth pulling for the chance.
I went here and it was empty excpet for the bard elf we chased out hehe. Exp was GREAT. It was a new experience and fun. I have been in smaller groups at Lguk with more intense fighting and gotten less exp than at KK.
