I kill this guy all the time along with Trainer Draxxr or whatever he's called and never saw either one with a bats head or any other kobold for that matter and yes I have looted soft wicker caps off several different types and they had the normal kobold looking head.
If you were me and I were you, would we still be friends?
I believe the bathead is a result of him wearing a Soft Wicker Cap...

I'm not sure of the exact loc, but you can find him pretty easy by going through the door on the left side of the king room. Just travel down that passage until you come to a room with a raised section of ground in the middle. Under normal circumstances there will be a circle of bats around the raised area, and the cave bat lord spawns on top the of area in the middle of the bat circle.

I was on, on my 15 rogue and was doing so-so in here. decided to log on my 39 druid on another server just to map and explore.... and even make a map. I dont know, I didnt have it.
On terris thule at least, I was quite surprised to find a Kobald. A normal old stinky Kobald. No giant bat of huge porportions, no giant bat man. I have a theory the 'hat' you get GIVES him this apperance, like the wicker hat. see, the guy I killed looked normal and did NOT have the hat...

If you are coming from kings room hug TIGHT The right wall, and if from SBM then TIGHT the left wall, he will miss you every time (o and the bats that are around him will NOT agro if you attack him)
I've killed him about 30 some odd times on my travels to SBM to fear kite stuff, he dropped hat 50pct of the time, (Unlike the normal kobolds, you can tell if they've got the soft wicker helm cuz of their ears, but this guy just looks like that by default)

I was just venturing through the Warrens, a paladin of 25 seasons, doing what most people do - searching their stomping grounds. I go into the tunnels and I find the Bat Lord. He decides he's going to kill me, so I take him up on the ledge and let my weapon do the rest of the work. Beat him with some considerable difficultly (my armour was all banded, apart from a Netherbian Chitin given to me by my guild, a Guard of the Marines, again another gift, and using my trusty Ghoulbane as a weapon). However, this battle revealed a few interesting bits of information
This kobold is most definitely not level 20. He was able to take a good 70-80% of my health off before he decided to run. I'd say that he was something approaching level 23, possibly 24, but I wouldn't place money on the 24. I imagine it varies somewhat, but that's what I found.
Secondly, when I fought him, he was simply a kobold.
Thirdly, the only thing I was able to loot off him was the Dreadful Hat. I have no need for this hat at all, so it's simply sitting there. It might go to a Heretic, but considering I come from Firiona Vie and I've made a point of never helping evils (wouldn't have been a problem until that infernal patch), it'll likely never see use.

He cons blue to my 32 monk and he was a easy kill.He doesn't hit hard, he only took one bub of health away and i didn't even use mend. Droped some turban, can't remember the stats, but he spawns in the room with all the bats around by SB zone. Hope this helps:)

I am a level 34 rogue. Before I fight this guy, I hide and sneak behind him to backstab him, but sometimes he still cons KoS while I'm hidden. Just a tidbit of info.

FYI,
I camped him for 8 hours and I can tell you for a fact that this creatuer can have the hat when he is in "dog form" or "batform".
I cannot tell you with any certainty why he appears in different forms but either form may or may not yield the hat.

He conned even to me at level 22 today. I don't know if his level varies at all from that, but he can certainly be 22.

I was running to SB and he saw me. By the time I zoned into SB, there were about 10 elders, 10 pack leaders, Prince Bragnar and his guards, and a bunch of other Kobolds. Too bad Snowbeast was waiting for me on the other side. I zoned back and forth about 15 times, and in the end the Cave Bat Lord and his minions got me.

I mighta beat ya there, was doing same thing, but not knowing my way around warrens i got lost and caster nuked me bout 3 times. Down to about 400hp i ran, had like 40 kobolds on me, snared as many as i could without having root memmed. last resort was /q but o well time to get my druid friend in HK to port me to tox and come along lol.
one by one the imps steal my sanity.

The level's not wrong. He conned blue to me at 30, also.. that doesn't mean that he's not 20.

I just killed the Cave Bat Lord and he was in "bat form" (normally wearing a cap of some kind). Based on some of the posts, I didn't think I'd get Azzar's Dreadful Cap, but sure enough, it was on him.
Also, while camping him last night, he popped in dog form, but didn't have anything on him.
So his appearance doesn't seem to have anything to do with whether he has Azzar's Dreadful Cap or not.

he cons blue to my lvl 30 ranger.. also, and i have pics to suport this,when a kobold looks like a bat he has on him the soft wicker armor.br it a cap or arms.. also the cave bat lord, and once again i have pics to suport this,when he has the dreadful hat on him, he will look just like a kobold in dog form..i have hunted in the warrens for about 3 days now trying to figure this out and it is true..hope this helps in your hunting...

If you are having trouble finding him still, this should help. In between the Stonebrunt zone and the Throne room are two large carvernous rooms with giant bats flying about. The second room (closest to stonebrunt zone) has a raised mound in the center. The cave bat lord spawns in the center of the raised mound in this room. The spawn time looks more like 1 hour and 15 mins than 1 hour to me.

Whenever you see a kobold with a bat head, that just means he's wearing a soft wicker hat...I thought I was seeing things when the zone first came up...

before you try to flame somebody make sure you know what you're talking about, sometimes kobolds spawn this way due to what they are wearing.. he doesn't always look this way.. i've faught a ton of kobolds for faction and some of the weenie ones also look like this from time to time ;)

The reason these guys look like "werebats" is because they are wearing caps. You can find this with any of the Kobolds in the Warrens. If you kill one and loot it, you will find that they always drop a cap of some sort. When you take the cap, you will notice the "werebat" look disappear.

Please I tried to look everywhere but apparently no one except Erudites tried to do the quest. I'll explain : I am a lvl 30 Dark-Elf wizard on Tallon Zek, went to Odus to seek this nice belt to replace this damn raw silk sash, killed the bat lord under his 2 shapes, got the hat, and then went invis to Azzar Habbib in the lookout tower of the newbie zone, gave him the belt but...got attacked. I managed to zone, but now I want to know if there's any way to get the sash, except killing 2 dozen hundred Kobolds...Thanks by advance.

I was able to do this quest (high elf enchanter) at lvl 40 because Azzar was green and didn't aggro. I went through the Warrens and killed every dog in the place and Azzar was still scowling, ready to attack. Duriel Bloodpool who is right next to Azzar went from scowling to dubious however(very important as his lvl is listed as 55).
So, even if you are of a lvl where you can deal with Azzar without him aggroing you need to get your heretics faction up for Duriel.

My partner and I journeyed to the far continent of Odus simply to find and eliminate this beast. We went with the intention of getting the sash from the Azzar's Dreadful Hat quest.
We camped the Cave Bat Lord on three occasions, less than an hour each time. The first two times he spawned he appeared as a large werebat and did not drop the hat. The third occasion he appeared as a large kobold and did drop the hat. Interestly enough, when he appeared as a kobold there was an unusual looking Hunter patrolling nearby: it had a kobold body, werebat's head and werebat arm wings could be seen when it ran.
All three times we faced this beast he was 22nd level because he conned white to me. I suspect that his level does not fluctuate. He has a spawn time of more than twenty minutes, but I can't say how much more.

i dont think so, a human pally friend of mine has hunted warrens for around 10 lvls, hes spent hours just killing runts and guards for faction, hes now lvl 26 and still kos :(

This is a silly quest... One of the quest items you have to buy is listed as selling for 20pp from vendors... for 20pp you can go and buy yourself a Savant's Cap 2 AC 3 WIS 3 INT, about 20x better than this thing.

The cave bat lord spawns with two different looks to him. One is the Kobold pictured above, and the other is a large werebat looking guy (like the ones in Unrest)
He's blue to me at lvl 30, so I'm thinking he's a little higher than 20. I could be completely mistaken tho.

Conned Yellow to my level 20 warrior. 30 minute respawn rate. The nice thing about his is that he spawns alone (except the bats flying around in the room).
