Are dire wolves and giants the only MOB's to raise faction for this guy??

to do the quest, you must have at least warmly faction, if you speak with a guy in Thurgadin, and say 'what boots', if he answer, you are good to quest them.
Thurgadin quest items are dropped in Kael (see other post to know where) and are NO DROP
But you can MQ them, at least, if the MQer is not KOS in Thurg, MQ price depends of the item, but none are cheap, especially bp and greaves.
for the gems, they drop from mobs level 45+ in : CS, DN, SG, Velk, WL, Icewell
and probably ToV, but not verified yet.

This armor drops most often in the Kael arena, however it also drops off seargents and lieutenants in the bank area. I think there is even a sgt/lt wanderer who wanders down to the WL zone. I camped bank and WL zone entrance for a week and I saw 2 chain drops and 1 plate drop off sgt/lt types. I talked to a monk who said he once saw a silk robe drop at the bank.
You don't really need strong group to kill the sgts/lts. One group that i did most of my time there was me, 56 warr, and my friend 53 druid. We were able to take down the sgts/lts. It left us with little mana at the end, but its possible.
If you can have two healers including a shaman or an enchanter to slow and a tank, a group even as low as 49-50 can do really good here. Slow is a key tho.
Be careful of what doors you open up at the bank. Behind one door is the captain and he will shred your group. Get the puller some sow if he don't know what she is doing. Hope this brings some help for those of you not in uber guilds.

Will Warmly work for faction....hate to give this guy my Corroded Bracer and gems and not get anything in return. Or will he give you the quest? When I hailed him he gave me no in Bracket Words...so this makes me nervous.
Anyone know about this for sure?

I am amiable to Coldain and when I ask about the legs, he told me I haven't proven myself yet.
I would definately recommend Hailing him, saying "I am interested" and then "what bracer?" and see what he says.

I did the boots quest with amiable faction. Not all quest sayings are in brackets. If you are worried about not getting anything back, just ask him questions like "What gauntlets?" and see if he responds. This quest should work at warmly if it worked for me at amiably :)

Just gonna answer some of the questions people posted here. First of all, this guy is in a room inside Thurgadin, take a left after the first two gates, follow the hall around, and hes in a room with some other NPC's.
Second, you don't need to talk to him, just give him the armor and the gems and you will get your stuff, on one condition (See #3)
Third, you need high amiable faction at least with these guys to do the quests, this means kindly or ally will also do.
Fourth, the Corroded Plate armor drops only in Kael off of Giants in the "Arena" area. Its a certain area inside Kael where all the giants see invis, and they are mostly higher than 50, and rather nasty mobs. the armor is no drop, and takes a few good raids to even get a few peices, so don't expect to get any unless your guild can raid Kael.
Fifth, you CANNOT get the gems from Freeport or any merchant, they are dropped gems in Velious and the Planes, off of mostly 49+ mobs. Best place I know of to hunt for them is Cobalt Scar, or Velks Labyrinth, or Dragon Necropolis. Good Luck.

First I want to say one thing. You're dumb. Those are very explicit directions to where this guy is, let me tell ya. I found him.....not at all by following your directions. Do you know how many rooms with NPC's there are in Thurgadin? Have you even been there? Anyway, corroded plate drops anywhere in Kael, NOT just arena. Only simpletons believe the arena is the only place you can get corroded plate. Anyway, the real location of Capt. Njall. After you pass through the second gate there is an opening to the left that goes to stairs. Go up the stairs it's the only way to go. Next there will be a hallway to your right at the top of the stairs, go that way. Take the last door on the left and you will see 2 guards standing in front of a door on the left. Go in there and he is to the right. If you need, his loc is -663, 54, 11.

The Cap is in the guard hut on right side of stream facing away from the waterfall. I have only seen him at night but this may or may not be coincidence. This little runt wont tell me dick about too much of anything, faction is all important with these armor quests and must be high enough, amiable i believe in order to even be given the quest, of this i am certain.

Go past the big bridge over the chasm, past the first two gates, and before the third, in the carpeted area with what look like castle walls. Before you get to the third gate, there are two side tunnels. Go to the left, up the stairs and take the first right doorway/door that you see. Go the end of this hallway, and take the left doorway, which will open to a long hall. Down this hall is a doorway guarded by 2 guards on the left, inside is Loremaster Einan, Capt. Njall and a Lt. I think.
