Solo'd the Dain as a 78 Beastlord. Not uber - only 214 aa, 2.0 mix of CoA and SoF tradeable gear (12.5k unbuffed). Made my pet tank most of the time seeing as it's easier to keep him up with Promised Recovery than try to chain heal myself ;p Would go in and melee to burn discs when they were up (weak beast defensive or just tap rake) or when focused para was up. Swarm petted most of the fight. Fool has a ton of hp was about a 30 min fight solo - with Dain and 2 of his guards (cleared all the ones that don't pop with him before he spawned)

Finished with 56% hp 33% mana

Dropped clicky hammer, cloak, 2X Frostreaver and a few spells not listed:

Spell: Call of the Predator
Spell: Brell's Mountainous Barrier (X2)
Spell: Arch Lich

Today i watched a pally friend of mine named Icej on Druzzil Ro solo the dain... he pulled him down into the hole, killed all the adds, and then faught dain. He killed Senchal Aldikar but dain repoped him and he ran back down, so he had to fight the whole time with an add but it didnt effect him much. Ward of Tunare was key for this fight. Ward of Tunare is the pally spell from PoR that heals the caster when he/she is struck. The whole thing took about 30-45 mins. The only veteran AA he used was staunch recovery. Overall it didnt seem like that bad of a fight.

Found out he does not banish pets. Me (70 mage)+70 mage +70 cleric +70 shammy took him out. Pet pulling does NOT work around the mobs by the throne, however you can pet pull the mobs around the throne without aggroing Dain or his guards then eventualy pull Dain.

Pets have a really really hard time holding aggro. Kept aggroing the mages and not the pets even if they didnt do anything. If you just have one mage fighting and he gets banished then you going to have a tuff time.

RAWR!! Today (3/23/04) we dropped Dain with less then 2 full groups, 2 of them being bots. All of the following toons are lvl 65: 2 Clerics (1bot), 1 druid(bot), 1 Warrior, 1 Paladin, 2 Rogues, 1 bard, 1 shaman and 1 ranger. Pull was easy w/ a bard pulling and fading, then getting gated back to surface, whole fight lasted about 20 minutes w/ repop taken care of. We got Head, 2 Cloaks and 1 Ring w/ 4 spells, not to bad for the twinks. Was super fun and a great kill!!

AYE ! 2 grouped him today which was the mark of me and RL friends oldschool raids that would continue all the way to VT ( all top mobs downed in any zone we came across ) on this ocasion we had only 2 groups and i must say he was a major pain in the ass with all his dps BUT not invincible ! Group #1 consisted of classes:

1)Warrior
2)Shadow Knight
3)Cleric
4)Necromancer
5)Druid
6)Monk

Group #2 consisted of classes:

1)Paladin
2)Beastlord
3)Shaman
4)Enchanter
5)Rogue
6)Cleric

Compared to the easily done Seru or anything else for that matter with LOWER attendance count. the amount of time this guy took to down was decent, not too long but not short either.
I ( beastlord ) was only non Time/GoD equipped in the 2 groups sides 1 cleric and the shaman being only VT/EP geared.

Start to burn this guy at 12% or 15% if u got the right classes in a 3+ group raid and uve got dwarf-stew all around =p

(ohh and We did have to zerg just a bit cause of this guys unwillingness to focus on our MT every now and then :P)

There are TWO versions of Dain.

Version 1: quads for 350
Version 2: quads for 425

Obviously one is easier than the other. He banishes aprox. every 30sec. If you fight him in the well (which is where he banishes to) then it's not an issue because you can run back over and keep fighting.

On our first kill back when velious launched he dropped 3 hammers, axe, head, and cloak plus some spells. Was a good day :)

IE Raid
# Oct 18 2003 at 1:02 PM Rating: Default
Immortalis Extrahi on Bristlebane raids the Dain fairly regularly (whenever more important targets are unavailable)

The fight generally lasts around 5 minutes or so, and is pretty easy. No deaths on our last 3 attempts.

The easiest way to fight him is to pull him into the pits, and push him into a corner. Healers stay back out of melee range, and nukers unload at around 15-20%

All around his hitpoints are around 500k.

The loot is worth the trouble though. Our last drop was a head, two crowns, and the Aegis (bleh)

Just an FYI -- someone finishing off the turn in for the 8th shawl quest can summon the Dain 1 time. My guild did him 2 times back-to-back by getting him then having someone (me hehe) do the turn ins for 8th shawl which summoned him again...

2 drops in 1 raid... not a bad deal <grin>

He spawns behind the red curtain, not right next to the Chamberlain. He will eventually come out to the throne area, but it takes a good 20 mins or so.

Might have been broken when you did it, or maybe you didn't look behind the red curtain, as I almost missed him back there myself when I did my shawl hand in today.

Cheers,

Anywhere from 350k to 425k hp.
Banishes to the "pit" fairly frequently.
Always drops head (I believe) other drops are fairly random with hammer being rarest.
Max hit in the high 400s.
Hits fast. Rampages. Enrages.
Tank drops significantly on aggro list when banished, so it's easy for damage dealing classes to gain aggro or at least rampage.

Because he banishes to the pit, he should be pulled to and fought in the pit. More or less a straight melee fight which generally lasts 5 to 15 minutes depending on DPS.

RE: T0doda
# Apr 12 2003 at 11:43 AM Rating: Default
yelinak would win no problem. they both hate the giants more than they hate each other, so that would put tormax out of the picture first... now yelinak is undoubtedly smarter than the dain, so he'd hold back in the fight with tormax and swat out the dain when tormax is finished.

I cant stop from laughing, oviously you have never fought dain. 425 dain is actually more difficult of a fight then tormax. You have first mabey the hardest pull in the game( if your expecting a solo pull that is). Then you have to keep dain pinned in a corner, and to top it all off, you can MT the him. He has a knockback proc ( single target) every 15seconds or so, that sends whoever has aggro into a well. During this time he can take out a few melee if you dont have good clerics who are assist healing dain. Its also a long fight, and usually when my guild kills him, we lack the numbers at the end so its even longer. Dain 325 isnt quite as hard as tormax, but theres still room for error... but all around my favorite fight in the game = dain :)

First off Dain is a VERY hard pull and the hardest I have seen or been involved with. He can be single pulled after all of his guards are dead (LOL). You dont have to put dain in a corner at all. There is no reason to. In fact I would suspect that would REALLY hurt your rogues unless they all have Chaotic Stab. Each group should IDEALLY have a cleric or two other priest classes if not a cleric for each group. And there is no 325 Dain just 350 and 425 but I suspect that was just a typo =P And I belive it is a 30 second proc not a 15 second one.

Did I mention that he hits A LOT faster then tormax, he could probally get 9 attacks in for every 4 tormax got in. And when hes bugged on my cpu ( human form) its VERY easy to lose him

There are 3 groups of "city" type factions in the land of Velious.

Dorf (Coldian, King Dain)
Giants (Kromrif, Kromzek and King Toramx (sp)
Dragons (Claws of Veeshan and Lord Yelinak)

[+ is increase in the Factions, - is decrease. The more + or - the Greater the Faction hit]

Keeling Normal Dorfs (GD, EW, Thrug)
+ Kromrif, Kromzek
-Coldian, King dain

Keeling Royal Dorfs (Icewell)
++ Kromrif, Kromzek, King Tormax
-- Coldian, King Dain

Keeling Kromrif (GD, EW, Iceclad, Keal, WL)
+ Coldian, Claws of Veeshan
- Kromrif, Kromzek

Keeling Kromzek (Keal)
++ Coldian, Claw of Veeshan. And I think King Dian and Yelinak.
-- Kromrif, Kromzek, King Tormax

Keeling Dragons (WW, ToV, Wuoshi, SS)
++ Kromzek
-- Claw of Veeshen, Yelinak.

Keeling Dragons in the East wing in ToV doesn't make you loss Dragon Factions. It's called the Halls of Testing or something, with is there for you to kill Dragons to get armor peice to get the Dragon faction armor
Killing any named guy from any of those factions is a big time hit of Factions. For example the King Dian would be

Keeling King Dain (Icewell)
+++++ Kromrif, Kromzek, King Tormax
----- Coldian, King Dain
Killing him can pretty much bring a 100% sure way to make yourself KoS with Dorfs and liked by Giants.

Dain by a long shot, Dain is so hard because it is so hard to control agro, he will banish your tanks making impossible to have steady healing on anyone, and also because he is small you have to be relatively close to attacking him making prox aggro very hard and he has more HP than vindi..most everyone would consider hard dain harder than tmax mainly because of the reasons mentioned above, but the dmg output on hard dain makes a large difference when compared to ez dain cuz it will allow him to chew up a hvy dmg dealer or 2 between each banishing.

Don't forget that you have to fight dain in EXACTLY the right spot in the well (if you choose to fight there wich I think everyone does) or you'll get lots of adds. Level 57 royal guards and the level 65 senechal will come to play. Not fun at all. DtV is deffinatly a pansy when compared to dain. Especialy the 425 dain.

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 10 2002 at 10:27 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Here is my 2 cents on the hate going on here. Im lvl 39 this is my first character I have never been on a raid never fought any powerful mobs, but everytime i have a question i try and find someone that is 50+. Why, because they have more experience in the game than me. Most of the time I have gotten an answer. Yes a couple of times ive been told that someone was to busy to help but hey if they are busy i dont want to bother them. I dont want anyone to get upset with me because im using up 2 minutes of there time but you also have to remember this is a game.
Does he hurt?

A level 40 would not go on a Dain raid. Unless he's an alt, has a friend/patron in another guild, or just happened to be in the right place at the right time when a guild was letting this rot, he would not have access to it.
