Looks like a giant armadillo. Very rare spawn, maybe moreso than Rahotep. His shield is very sought after. He spawns slightly north of Dervish Camp #3.

This critter still pops, I was lucky enough to have him spawn next to me on the long hill parallel to the sea right near the fishing huts and the bandit camp. He dropped the shield, which was a rather nice twink item for my paladin on The Combine server (just when it first opened).
He is a very rare spawn though, much rarer than the dreaded Rahotep.

Popped last night when they reset zone because of LDoN vendor issues on E'ci. Only dropped an 'Armadillo Hide' though.
I caught him right after a zone reset too, there might be something to that. He was hanging out in the middle of the undead circle of stones
(LOC:+6300,-850; in between the tunnel to the Commonlands and most western Derv Camp).

First time I've ever seen this 'lil guy was today while I was helping a bud mop up Dervs at the 3rd camp. Dropped the shield and a hide/pelt that was edible as a snack.

I saw this thing in august . It dropped dunedigger hide or something like that... it was a pelt of some sort and was not no drop. I got 10 pp for it from a merchant.

I saw this guy today on my way through North Ro. He was around location 13 on the map on eqatlas.com. He conned white to a level twelve and hit for a max of 26. After killing him I did a /time maybe this will help.

Iv had everquest a month after is first came out, still have the box and the really old first Strategy guide as proof, and I nver have seen nor heard of This or the mummy that drops that scarab ring and staff, hmm. Oh well, now i know about them...

Never knew the critter existed till I was stumbling along through NRo and saw the little darling on track. I though to my self, what the heck, put the smack down on his green behind and got that spiffy shield. Whoot! My lucky day!

How often does he spawn .. I saw on a post above that it is once an EQ year ... I highly doubt that ! Anyone have a better suggestion on how often he spawns? Also what does it look like when equipt ?? any info would be greatly appreciated

i am a level 14 shadowknight last night while grouping the rouge in my group pulled this wonderful creature we promptly killed it and rolled (it dropped the shield) and i won it was near derv three don't know exact spawn spot though I am on the ayonea ro server(not sure of spelling)

Maybe he spawns like someother named creatures like Terrorantula. Maybe if someone killed a WHOLE lot of normal armadillos he would spawn. Worth a try

I ran into Dunedigger last night on the Xegony server while running to Oasis. It aggroed on me, so I killed it. All I got off of it was a armadillo hide. As of last night, I was a lvl 20 paladin. I didn't have any trouble killing it.

For anyone doubting if this guy still pops, he does. I ran into him yesterday on Luclin server. Very green to a 39 chanter (of course)and he had the shield.
Yep, he still pops, after playing the game for over a year and a half, I had never seen him til the other day, unfortunately someone beat me to him, but he still roams nro.

I just killed this weenie. My level 13 mage had no problem at all. Con blue to me, spawned south of the lone tower.

Hi i am a lvl-8 Rogue . My Game name is Solja on Morell-Thule Server . There were 2 COUNT em 2 of those sheilds at the Boomba the Big Vendor in W.Freeport about 2 days ago . Very pricey , i bought one . =) dunno if that other one is still there . I highly doubt it !

killed on bristlebane two days ago on my monk twink, near water side about to zone into the oasis...Not jan 1st, October 20th. Dropped a armidillo hide, unlike the ones the regular Armadill's drop, it wasnt stackable and was 0.0 weight.

My lvl 11 shadow knight had no problem taking this thing out. I had a druid buff on me and my pet. Together we killed him and i had a little less than half my health left. When i killed him he was near derv 3( the one next to the wall)

I play on Vazaelle
Now i found him on my Track (so yes he does appear on tracking) and recognized him as an incredibly rare spawn. When i found him he is at what i assume is his spawn point.
Do you know the tower near the mid/back of the zone, with the door at the bottom? He spawned near it up the dunes that surrond it on the North side.
It was around 5ish or so central time when i got him.
It was day time in EQ (guestimating around late mourning, noonish)
He was EASY at 29. Only took 1 creep crud and 1 combust. I let him linger a bit so i could get some screenshots.
He dropped the shield for me. Pretty nice sheild. Now adorns my human SK alt.

I saw him once, on Karana Server. It was my necro and 2 other necros. We all had pets, so it was quite fun to watch it die :) It killed 2 and almost got a third, but we didn't get scratched. It was lvl 12 for sure, because i had a lvl 9, red, and to the 10 it was yellow. All it droped was a skin, worth 1pp to the vender.

i was fighting a scarab and when i finished it off this guy came up behind me and whacked me pretty hard i put up a good fight but it was a futile effort. I was only lvl 8 monk :(

Yo,this is Pindawen and I play on the Solusek Ro server.Last night I saw that Dunedigger as I was running past the south side of Derv 3 it was around midnight.I didnt fight it because Im only lvl 10 pally.Can someone sell me that sheild??

Now i'm not for sure if he spawned or not didn't actually see him but someone said they killed him right before i zoned into N Ro. I typed time in real fast and it was May 5th 1 AM EQ time. this was acouple of days ago. Once again though not sure if he spawned because i didn't actually see him.

Dunedigger spawned last night around 8:00PM CST in RL. Don't know what date/time in game. Myself, 11 Necro and my partner, 11 Cleric killed it easily with my pet helping. Dropped the shield.

I'm not so certain of this spawn time of Jan 1st. He spawned in NRo at approximately mid-August game time. Right now, it is August 28 game time and he spawned about 4 hours ago.

Well I camped with a guildmate at Derv3 with good LOS all around all day January 1 EQ time and no Dunedigger. SuZek server :\
yes jan first EQ time but the hour is random which means he spawns any time of day on jan first EQ time. one more thing he loves to pop right behind you and hit you from behind.

I got lucky and spotted it while hunting undead. I was near Derv Camp 3 and it was about dusk. I targeted it with 2 Strikes (75 pts and 55 pts) before engaging it in melee. When the battle finished I had no Mana left and 2 bubs of life left. It does hit pretty hard. There are occasional mummys and madmen, so be careful. I did get the shield. (big grin).

I have seen and killed Rahotep just south of Derv 3. On the NRo Dersert Highway that leads to the Pillar at the egde of the sea. He dropped the Scarab Ring. Pretty nice little Item. I'm wearing it now. It adds +2 to all Resistances. I hear he spawns once an EQ week. I can't remember the date tho it all happened real quik for me. I was a Lev18 Pally at the time showing a Lev14 Ranger around. Sorry, I'm hunting there now If I see and kill him again, I'll be sure to note the date; as for the Dunedigger as well.
I have hunted this zone for countless hours with multiple characters. I have killed Rahotep 5 times and seen probably 5 Sand Giants. I have never seen this guy. I think Verant has removed him or else he is the ultimate in rare spawns.

North Ro is also my favirite place for my lower level characters and I saw and killed Rahotep twice, both times with the Paladin sensing the dead. Now that Armadillo Ive killed 3 times and got 3 skins(no shield) and seen him a 4th. He conned RED so I shouted for info and got no responses that werent related to ME being sand happy. I also enjoy forcing the HG to spawn just to liven things up with my high level, and never gotten either of the rare spawns to pop instead of the SG. I doubt their on the spawn table but maybe on a bored off hour ill give it a shot.
*note* South part of zone is usually filled with snakes, but whatever the case sic your Caster pet on everything in sight and within 20 min the
big boy should start stompin round the southern part of the desert. I dont even want to consider that the SG is a placeholder for the rare spawns.

With 3 characters under 17 this is the only quest ive heard about that i think will do me any really good bonus. I mean 5k would go a long way for me.

Therefore a 10 AC item will raise your actual AC 15. So the AC 15 shield will raise your ac 22-23 AC...Wow...hats exactly what it did...

if what he drops (when he doesn't drop the shield) is an armadillo husk, then what ya use it in is Armadillo Simmer Ale. Never seen the critter, so I can't say for sure.
