Rusty Halberdok, heres the deal ill sit here at level 50 waiting for him to come then ill walk over to him slash him to pieces thenn wait for him to go back to 50% then do it again... the reason is... i have 2500hp and 1300ac.... muwhahaha oh yeah i resist 99% of spells so basicly its just the random hit so i enjoy this for all yall who cna kill him, go to that forest thingy(neriak newbie zone) and kill guards... its fun little to no risk(cept random high level dragoons....i can kill those too but im not bragging 8D) they drop 3-7pp weapons plus change and words/runes/thingys....

This dragoon, like all dragoons is very resistant to magic. He is the bane of light races hunting in the Commonlands, as he attacks very quickly and usually witout warning.
It has been speculated that the death of Kizdean Gix causes this Dragoon to appear..

Well he doesn't like Iksar Necros that's for sure. I was sitting in the tunnel to Befallen with my 36 Iksar Necro and he came at me full on. He resisted everything but Venom of the Snake, but I still took him out without too much trouble.

As a Dark Elf Necro there aren't too many places where I'm going to get help from an NPC. W.C. is one of the few.
Last night my pet gave his life to save mine (not that he had a choice!) from the various critters that were on my tail. I knew I wouldn't make it to the zone, I was OOM, and very low on HP.
I see this SK up ahead and hit my Train hotkey and /y. I needed help, but didn't want to train the guy.
Well he and his pet lay into the critters like there's no tomorrow! They completly wiped them out. I go over to thank him and only then realize he's an NPC!

i have a level 65 pally, very powerful, nothing can stand in my way, i mean nothing, not even all the different classes in everquest. but anyway if you need any help with epic quests or just need help with anything, look me up. ive been level 65 less than a year when the game first came up. im pretty much like a god in the game. look me up if you need help.

This guy was the bane of my existence as a level 15 cleric hunting in there. One time I was shopping near the lake and all of a sudden "Dragoon Zytl slashes YOU for 45 points of damage." I started to run to no evail. Now, every time I come here with my monk I kill Gix to make him spawn and KICK HIS ASS!!! =P

Had the misfortune of meeting this guy with my 22 ranger while doing the milk quest for some faction not long ago - he led off with a harm touch and had a skeleton pet and as per the new NPC "fix" uses all of the new SK spells and uses them rather nicely.
He killed a low 30s druid who was working the guards and thought he could handle the dragoon and the only thing that saved me was that I was SOWed and one of the druid's snares had held - might have been able to bow kite him if I hadn't run out of arrows.

Last night on my 35 druid I was passing through WC on my way to HHK, and this guy jumps me. I killed him easy root/dot. His pet was no problem and I took him out in 2 or 3 nukes. Kizdean does not need to be killed for him to spawn, he was up on track when I killed Zytl. He also dropped something not listed here that I forget the name of at the moment, I'll post again if I remember

I've had a bit of experience with this guy and gix. I was extremely excited from an rp standpoint to see the big city of freeport, I made a big deal of it by taking the boat from butcherblock. I did a bit of searching and decided I should get to know the outlying areas.
This Gix character showed me a thing or two about undercons. What interests me is after I died a paladin offered to ressurect me, killed gix then asked me if I had any track (I failed to mention I'm a ranger) of this Dragoon. I had the pet, and wandered all around trying to find the dragoon, to no avail. Came back in my 30's for some well deserved payback. Here's what I learned from my experimentation with Gix and Zytl:
1. The dragoon most definately, without a doubt is spawned by gix dying. I confirmed this countless times with track. The catcher is, he won't always show up. I tried to mark this off as coincidence, but the fact that there was no sign of him, and instantly after gix died he was there, given that this was done 15 or so times(yes..way too much time on my hands..I digress) he spawned about 12 of those 15.
2. There is a very distinct possibility that he does have indeed two items of interest. At the time of this camping I was running a 20th ranger that didnt have luclin from Greater Faydark, to Odus. I am 39 seasons and zytl is a very solid blue to me. The reason I mention this, is on this instance the spawned zytl was light blue, and to my chagrin I didnt think a 20th season and a 39th together with an lb 30ish would trivial (firiona vie) but it did..twice. It could be he had two daggers, but I'll never know for sure. After about 5 times, he dropped the dirk, it's really kind of a let down that this guy apparently isnt quest related. The dagger, is kind of a joke, but it's a constant, reliable spawn...take that for what it's worth.
3. I never once noticed zytl coming directly for the person that killed gix, unlike Droon and Proon in East Karana (granted if you back away from where you killed him, they still usually dont aggro) his total path is determined by what npcs are in his path to kill, he'll detour a good bit to stop and attack a skeleton(go figure) and the undead).
4. He always (and I mean always) spawns in the desert area near befallen, and he's a relatively fast runner (not dark assassin fast) and the spells are pretty much what gix would throw at you.
So, theres all I learned for a couple of hours of curious vengeance, maybe someday this will be useful for something.
Anyone that wants vengeance on the Dragoon or gix on the Firiona Vie server, look me up. I never get tired of payback. It's best served...often.

You are correct about everything you said. I would only like to make a small correction in that Kizdean Gix is not really a PH but a trigger for spawning Zytl, there is a difference, especially since they don't spawn in the same place.
Gix and Zytl are both undercons. Gix is a necro without a pet (always). Zytl is a shadowknight and will summon a pet sometimes if left alone.
He won't always spawn after killing Gix but if he does you are correct in that he immediately spawns right outside of the entrance to Befallen where the grass stops and the sand begins. Some people think he spawns near the lake and this just isn't true. For some reason he will always start running towards the lake immediately upon spawning (unless he casts a pet and then he will start running) so I can understand where this thinking began.
He is a fast runner, and he will tear any of the people hunting in WC for experience a new one (with the exception being anyone who is camping the shawdowed men in the corner). That having been said save yourself some leg work and save the lives of a couple of the low-teens players in the zone and follow one of these 2 suggestions...
1) Have a partner (or a pet) and attack Gix together at first. When Gix is getting low, have one person (the pet if you have one) stay to finish him and one person run over the hill to Zytl's spawn point to aggro him immediately after he spawns to keep him from running towards the lake and to keep him from casting a pet also.
2) If soloing (without a pet) pull Gix over to Zytl's spawn point and kill him there so you can aggro Zytl right when he spawns. You run added risk here since Gix will unload all his spells on you before he will move which could be considerable damage depending on your level.
Having killed Zytl several dozen times, I can say that his loot is limited to a rusty halberd (almost always) and the dragoon dirk. I would agree with the estimate that the dirk drops about 1 in 5 times, maybe a little less.

Last night, I was doing an errand for an alt, working on a newbie armor quest. After getting out of Nektulos Forest, setting foot in WC making my way to North Ro, I notice that something had attacked me from behind. Needless to say,"??? wtf" I turned around, it was this guy. It had a nice set of armor, a dirk and a halberd also has a pet. I managed to beat him and his pet up. Too bad I wasn't able to strip everything from him got a dragoon dirk and a rusty halberd out of this encounter. I hope, I did some kind of justice for somebody by killing him and his pet.
You did justice for me. I was there last night, with low mana, and few buffs up (after all, it's a newbie zone) and he almost killed me. Good thing he doesn't run fast. I was able to high-tail it back to the East Commons. At level 31, with a centi SS and a WoFS, I thought I could take him easy. But he hits hard and fast. He's definitly on my list of people to kill everytime I run through that zone.

Last night I was camping shadowed men for some thing or other that a guild mate needed for the jboots quest, when my pal dies , this goon aggroes me. He was green to me at 29 but still took my warrior to half life. I killed him on the wiz pad and sat there to bind when all of the sudden I get wacked from behind by Dragoon Zytl and his friggin pet. He was dark blue to me, so I knew I would die. I did die. I agree with the statement that Gix's death causes this dragoon to spawn, so tonight I will be camping gix and this bastard with my guild mates.

I've been hunting in WC for a week or two. Frequent that place because of the camps, Wisps, and the high odds of getting buffs.
Gix has been standing near the Toll Gate for the last week or so (even through the hell of updates we had on 9/4). I can tell for certain that Gix is not related to Zytl. I ran into this guy when he decided to slay the Plains Cat I was attacking. Thought it odd that a player blatantly try to steal my kill....then he turned on me. (I am still learning about the light blue name/dark blue name thing). Well, I kicked on my Selo and hauled A@$. I figured I'd try and get the guards at the gate to kill Zytl...No good. Guess being assigned to a remote location like that kinda makes you reluctant to do anything. Then I turned towards Gix. I blew right passed him (never agro'd me) but he didn't attack Zytl either. Eventually he feared me. I lagged/locked and died. When I went back I found my corpse UP in a tree. I have a screenshot if someone wants to see that. I sear, sometimes these npc's have a personality...But to the point. I have seen both Gix and Zytl up at the same time.

They can be up at the same time if there has been sufficient time for Gix to repop. Killing Gix is defnitely the trigger for the Xytl pop, as my ranger did this religiously at about 35. I love arrow kiting him after rooting his pet.
ok i was running through WC an i aggro this guy(i had sow) an he cast fear on me.. What luck he fear me in the direction i had to go . heh his fear made me run all the way to the Kithilcore entr,an thats were i was heading all along heh

When i was a lvl 6 ranger i was lucky enough to get a port to get a port to WC and was very happy about seeing my friend's main there. When i got there we went fishing. Suddenly im double attacked for a total of about 300 damage and killed. Since i didnt have a bind i was sent all the way back to Queynous Hills with none of my stuff. I can't wait until i can reach a higher level and can kill that freak...

Okay....now I know you are ALL going to laugh at me, but that's alright. Well, I am a lvl 14 Druid and I came to EC thinking "Heck yeah Will-O-whips rock my XP," so I bound myself by the inn. BAD MOVE! Well, right now this retard is running around killing me at my spawn spot because I killed so many orcs in CB and my faction is HORRIBLE!!!! So....I have already died 4 times and I am about to revistit lvl 13. Sucks don't it? I swear my new goal in life is to be lvl 40 and come back and kick his delf butt! Hahahaha! Hey, at least I have motivation now!

Got my @$$ handed to me by this guy last night. I was selling to vendors at Inn near toll booth when all of a sudden I get whacked for 70+hps 4 times in a row. I started for the EC zone just to make the CR that much easier when someone casted SOW on me (whew!) I made it to EC with under 100hp left.
Anyway, I don't recall any armor on Zytl - just a darkie in a robe (and his pet). Is the pic above right?

I arrive in wc via tele.im an agnostic bard kitty first thing i do con gix indeffrent ,hail him nothing,shweew. im running around cracking my crystal whip twisting songs and enjoying killing wisp, good money.When i see this decked out de cool i thought i ran buy pet agroed he stated swinging that halbread like drunk guitarist bang im dead and back in fp,i was cussing up astorm and singing the kitty blues.the day will come i will come back and charm every thing in sight and sick them on him then when hes down to 1 bubble i will move in for kill,if that doint work ill bring my 40 rngr and kick his dark elf, beware delves im gonna chop u up.

I Was playing my DE Necro (60th Season, Hehe) and i was sitting with a little wood elf buddy of mine (level 22 or something at the time) when i had to go AFK, and when i got back, i noticed that my little buddy was gone, and all that was left was his corpse, so i scrolled up and saw that this dragoon bastard had killed him, so i went on the hunt, i whipped out the old spectre and kicked his ass once, twice n 3 times over

Finally got revenge upon this nasty mob. I found that poison based DD and DoTs work very well on this mob. I did notice that as soon as I killed his buddy Kizdean Gix, about a minute later I heard cries from a player on a CR that he's being chased by Zytl. At last my chance to get revenge. I commanded my pet to play with Zytl's pet while I wipe the floor with Zytl's hide.

I was lvl 28 minding my own business than I see this pud Zytl, I ask whether I can take him, you know ooc. Everyone says i will die in a minute. I engage him, he fears me, it breaks. I unsheath my Wurmy, pull on my Mithril, wiggle my fingers and wipe the floor with 'em. He has less than half and I have 3 bubs left so i figure he be dead, sadly he fears me again but it sticks to long I lose to much life and havta run to befallen. I looked back and he was 1/4 dead and I was 3hp from death. Needless to say when he has you feared you ARE his biatch. But remember he can be taken at 30 easily enough. Next time I see him when I am 30 he will die and my Klingon swear word Necro will have a decent dagger.

Well, I knew about Gix even been killed a time or two by him (now i kill him and dorn ever chance i get ) any ways i was in wc the othere night thinking all but the shadow men and gaints i could take pretty much any thing in the zone, so i was just fooling around killing some bears trying to make some easy plat and buffing newbies as i when by when i see what i thought was a pc Darkie sk well even though i am a pally was just going to say hi when he attacked me he coned blue so with him and he's pet i thought it my not be so easy . when i seen how hard he was hiting i warned every one i was taking him to ec zone line , there i kill his pet ( may have been my bigest mistake cause the pet dont realy hit that hard but Dragoon dose) after killing the pet and LOH my self i started to work on him got him down to about 1/2 hp but by that time he had me at 60hp so i zoned

I was in WC and got attacked by him doing one of the Pally quests. I'm lvl 44 and he is light blue to me, pet was green. Took him out first then easy pet kill. It was a great pleasure killing that SOB. Him and Kizdean.

Not only is this guy an undercon (kinda like every other mob lvl 30+ in the game) but he will fear you if you attack him, so watch out. If you gonna kill him, i would suggest stunning him and using the fastest weapon u have so he doesnt have as many chances to cast.

i had just ported to the spires in WC for the first time and i was lvl 10 and was about to head to Fp with my friend when i was hit for 60 dmg!! i laged too much to turn around so i never had a chance. not that i had one befor!! so i appeared back in kelethin and i was so p'ed off i just started swaring at me partner lucky for me he got me a rez and i casted camo on my self and me and my friend headed for Fp(after that i dont think ill go back to the spires a gian untill im able to port my self at i think lvl 24) just be sure to have a good group when its ur first time going to WC.

My lvl 31 warrior and partner, a 30 shammy went looking for this guy for revenge. We took Gix out and headed for the spire and poof, there he was with his pet. After all we had read and seen, this was a really easy kill. Shammy took out the pet and I took out Zytl. He really wasn't very tough, only took about one and a half life bubs from me and the shammy didn't even get hit. Really crappy loot for a mob this high with a rep like he has. But the revenge made it all worth while. Now we will take him out at every opportunity.

yea, this guy really does suck. i had a 35 shammy in the area and i used the num lock key to auto run in the zone cuz i was fixin to makes me somthin to eat. took about 3 min, and when i came back I wasnt running anymore. Isaw my pet gettin pound'd by this foo and his pet. he had casted heat blood on me and i was already a 1/2 health so I sowed my self and headed to e comms. If i only wouldah seen this jerk i couldah killed'em. I always wondered what he dropped too.

i was around lvl 15 or so and was foolin around in WC for the first time. Came across Gix while i was in the inn and he killed me pretty quickly so after a quick cr from gfay, i decided to see what was around. saw a kodiak that conned yellow, figured i was sowed and would snare if i needed to run. so i start to attack and its a pretty even fight then i see 'dragoon zytl pierces a kodiak for 35', and i was thinkin cool some help, this guy is a buddy, then once the kodiak was dead i see 'Dragoon Zytl pierces you for 38' needless to say i died soon after. just thought it was funny that he would help me kill the kodiak first.

well, never been aggroed by Gix, but right now, I could take him. Zytl, however aggroed me whilst I was talking to that kind fisher man when from a distance I think I see one of my SK friends with their new velious quest armor!? where'd they get-you writhe in the grip of agony! his pet conned light blue at 15. that was back in the days of 450 hp. I lay hands'ed and got out after 10 rounds of melee, yes you heard me, 10 rounds of melee combat on this guy at level 15. hit for my dmg cap's max (29) 6 of those times. When I came back to get my corpse he aggroed(again) so I was smart got off a /who, saw some warlords and figured they were at druid rings. lol, great to see this guy go down to a few blows from a level 60 in full warlord armor.... I looted the 'uber' rusty haldberd and killed something with it before destroying it out of spite. I could take him down now with some of the groups I've been having, but I want him one on one. the day shall come zytl. you and your little dog too.....

This guy is really easy, just kinda hard to find, i kill gix then go around where he is supposed to spawn and i cant find him. lvl35 monk can take him and his pet np without even losing much hp

This guy is great! Reading the posts makes me think about all the times goodie-goodies agroed on my de sk just for bumbling into the wrong area. Being evil is difficult, but having Dragoon Zylt on your side makes it all the worth wile.

I have been reading all of these and I feel you. I had been soloing around WC all day getting exp and pelts, and I saw this guy like a half a dozen times, but I was lucky to see him from far away, cause he had killed me about that many times in the past. I think I was lvl 13 at the time. Well, I'm getting hella tired in real life and decide to camp by the shore. I have ten seconds left, look away from the monitor to talk to a friend and when I look back I'm a corpse. I didn't know how long it would be until I could get on EQ again and didn't want my corpse to rot, so I had to stay up for quite a while longer, cursing the name Zytl all the way.

Yes, this guy really sucks. He has killed me more times than I can count. The worst was when I was in one of the Inns and he killed me inside. But when I went back for my corpse it was GONE!!!! I talked to a GM and she found my body ON TOP OF THE INN ROOF !!!! I am sure it is a bug, BUT I still blame that ass Dragoon for it!!!! DIE DRAGOON!!!

I was staying still so my partner could bind my wounds. All of a sudden I see magic around me. At that very second I died. The bastard casted harm touch and I swear that as soon as I am level 60 I am coming back to kick this guys ass 20 times.

I, a lv40 Druid, was sitting outside of Befallen learning some languages when someone ran past and trained Ztyl on me. He conned light blue, so I decided to stay and fight. He almost killed me!! I finally killed him but had under 100hps left. My dd spells were doing half damage, root wouldn't last, and snare was resisted. Not to mention all the interrupts from his attacks.

So I'm standing in one of the inns in WC checking out some shields a merchant is selling. I was pretty happy with a shield I had just bought, so I click done. I go to turn to leave and I see this really cool guy in some cool arse armor inside the inn, so I think to myself man this guy must be selling some “MAC” stuff, so like an arse I try right clicking him. I kept trying till I realized OK something is wron… then BAM..BAM. Needless to say I didn’t even make it to the inn door. That was at lvl 6. Now I’m at lvl 16 and since then have been killed 3 times by this guy.

Just migrated to WC from oasis. Was there for the WW event. Im 18 rogue, I dusted 3 Minor and 5 Lesser WWs during the event, and I can solo a kodiak with or without the stupid skellie aggros. I was sitting in front of the first inn doing some tailor prac when I see what I thought was an SK coming with a pet. The next thing I know Im getting smacked by this pet and then BAM I see a black hand in the buff bar and Im done. Never even heard of this guy until then. Obviously I never had a chance to run with lag from open craft windows. Id say revenge sounds just about right, especially using MY Dragoon Dirk. *grin

hehe i'm a level 31 paladin and i was just sitting in WC with a few guild buddies and this prick HTed one of them to death. well i showed him not to tick me off, he was a litle hard (takeing me down to 2 bulbs of hp left but then again i do have over 1khp buffed) and his pet didn't even get into it till he was almost dead. he resisted alot but then again dark elves do have a good magic resistance. now its time for me to get my revenge on him, I shall kill the prick again and again till i feel good about myself!

When I was lvl 10 (Cleric), whacking away at orc camps in EC, one of my guild mates asked if I wanted to help him with the undead camp in SK. He is a 25 monk and was just camping for Grim and said he could help me get major XP from the Putrid Skels.
Sounds like a great plan so I take off towards SK, running along the path in WC, minding my own business and guess who shows up. Yep, this bastard, and he mutilated me before I even had a chance to see what was happening.
Well I go ahead and log off for a couple of hours, thinking some high lvl will come along and take care of him and I can go back and get my stuff. So I log on, and run from FP and when I get there BAM! I even had SOW on, but he countered it with some slow spell and kicked my butt.
When I get high enough level, I will be back.

Almost killed me at level 30 Im a mage and was running through unprepared. I just happened to catch thid guy running by five levels later and decided to try my luck and killed hte jerk w no prob. The stupid jerk didnt drop anything but dark elf parts and a rusty halberd. I think ill go and kill him again just for being so poor.

I remember whenI fought him with my lev 21 paly. I was on one of the trails when he jumped me. Ihit him and he countered with fear. He beat me around. I got controle and hit him again and he cast fear. He beat me down again. At this point in time I thought it was smart to just run. Close to the Druid ring I figured I would die before I got there so I hit him again. Then he cast fear on me. Lucky me the fear spell made me run to a high level cleric. The cleric kept healing me till I killed him. The wierd thing was he never cast fear again.
