Guard Captain always drops a large piece of bronze armor (random) - great if your starting out with a big tank.
I got my Ogre SK with a full set of bronze off this guy.

The Guard Captain
Monster

Uploaded July 24th, 2007
The ogre captain is the highest level ogre in Najena. Oddly, his faction is not tied to any of the ogres throughout the rest of Norrath.
The Maul is a very rare drop, he also can drop various Keys to the locked doors in Najena.

Looted this from the Guard Captian last night. I'm a Ranger and I can equip it, not that I would ever use it, I was just checking out the graphic. Anyway, it doesn't have RNG listed as being able to use it on this site, that must've been changed. don't recomend 2h anything for Rangers though, just my 2cp.

Rangers generally prefer low delay weapons as they can deliver alot of damage with their speedy attacks. This can work against you, however, when fighting a mob that has a damage shield. You will end up doing the mobs work for him or over-taxing your groups healer. Not to mention how quickly a ranger can be reduced to a pile of goo by a rampaging mob when caught unawares. This is where the use of 2HB and 2HS weapons come in handy. As with any class, it is highly recommended that you keep all weapon skills maxed. You never know when you may need them.

Strange indeed. I have found that 2hb and 2hs are quite nice skills to have for a ranger.
Swarmcaller (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4817)a 2hs has a nice combat proc of Tagar's Insects which is a 50% slow for 3.5min... very useful in a group when there are no other slowers.
And of course there is the Woodsman's Staff (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=580) a 2hb with which I have numerous times been able to out damage warriors of a higher level and on one occasion to outdamage both a warrior and a shadowknight.
All in all I would say that it is important for a ranger to max out all of his/her weapon skills or at least have them high enough where you won't be missing half the time you are trying to hit your target (except for hand-to-hand... cause lets face it, a ranger fighting hand-to-hand is like a griffon without wings. Its not gonna fly). You never know when you'll come across a weapon that you can use that is better than the one that you have.

He drops the Shiny Bronze Key for the 1st door to Rathyl. BoneCracker drops the 2nd key to Rathyl, and Rathyl drops the Drelzna Key. Drelzna drops both her key and Najena's Key. Beware, Drelzna's and Najena's keys are both lore.
Actually, they are not both LORE, but they are both NORENT. which means if you want to do najena 2 days in a row, you better be ready to do drelzna and rathyl also :)

A nice place to set up a farm if ya ask me. The spawn time is 19 minutes it seems, somewhat less than 20 I figure. I've seen the WAR MAUL drop 2 times in a row, and got 3 of them total after camping it for a little while (FYI). Captain drops 2 pieces of Bronze at once sometimes so if you are almost full of gear be ready to destroy some food or water hehehehe.

I killed him the other day and was suprised to see that he dropped a Large Plated Girth. These cost aprox. 325pp from a vender but like always it only sells for a fraction of that. The stats on it are 7ac and weighed like 7.5 or something like that. It's basically not that great but it is a difference from that good old bronze armor :)

The Large Plated Girth is not actual plate like you buy at a merchant; I believe it is just a fancy name for Large Bronze Girdle.

Also drops the key to the first door to Rathyl's room I believe, the Shiny Metallic Key.

An important note when taking on the Captain and his crew... if the Visiting Priestess is in the room with him.. BEWARE. She heals for a tremendous amount, and Ive seen the captain go from nearly dead to full health from a single spell. She'd difficult to kill herself, as she heals quickly. It took every spell I could muster to take her out.. and that with my pet and a bard working her over. The Captain in the meantime was making mincemeat out of the rest of my group. TONS of HP on that fella. Just an FYI.
