Raid Encounter

Uploaded July 24th, 2007
Carprin is the first of five NPCs you need to kill in order to get the Bertoxxulous flag. He procs Memory Blur on himself as well as a 3500 point lifetap on his target.
Spawns three friends when aggro'd: Fran Prisoal Breddan Rutyl Abroan Drian
Upon his death, Avhi Escron will spawn further inside.

Carprin happened to be in the zone when I was killing with my 75 necro.
Don't pull the mob next to him with Darkness. He gets annoyed.
I was guessing I might not be able to kill him so I feign'd death and waited for him to kill my pet.
He only managed to hit for 685, 638, 401, 258, with one 1159.

Gawd, I don't care what he drops, I don't care how you solo'd him with your ## Toon. I want to know how you can check to see if you've done this guy. Is it, /key or does Seer tell you something about him?

Posting from Wasilla, Ak. USAHe didn't solo anything. The dude comes with about six adds. A 75 by himself and there would be nothing left but a grease spot.
/KEY
if you have it it will say Key to the Lower Depths of the Ruins of Lxanvom

Some people do care what he drops, and if he can be taken out solo. Don't be a jackass.
I love how Sony makes it so certain rules don't work sometimes on certain mobs. You can invis past him when he's stationary, but apparently it doesn't work after he's been aggroed somewhere. I zoned out after aggroing him, but when I zoned back in with IvU, he dropped me before the screen even loaded. Screw you Sony.

Posting from Orange County, CAIt may be that he just spawns being able to see through invis sometimes. I didn't check it before I pulled him the first time.

Solo'd him on my 75 Pally.
Raid buff to 16.5khp/3.7kac (the important stat)
All AAs worth having.
He's actually easier while his adds are alive cos they Ward heal you. But they have to die first so that's when the fight starts (spose you could pull some more trash, but that's lame and cheating).
Also solo'd Ahvi.
Ass handed to me by Bishop (his DPS is a big jump from the prior 2). Future plan = dispel him and adds, think they hasted or something. Maybe bring my willsapper. And try pull the adds off first too.

Even makes it more BS
We had a wild ride last night going through the cycle. (Long post ahoy)
First things first, we had 18 people, all of whom are pre-Time geared (and pre-Elemental also, although we do have some smattering of grouped gear like the Arcstone spirit mark gear, the occasional WoS and MPG drop, DoN stuff, etc).
Me and another monk were the pullers. First we cleared straight through (I did pull a couple mobs in the side-hallways that were very close, so that they wouldn't aggro accidentally). Clearing to Carprin's room is very quick as long as you keep the mobs coming.
His room is PACKED. Having two monks is definately a help since you can tag off the other if they botch the pull. we pulled most of the adds around Carprin without aggroing, and then we got to the mobs that were just behind Carprin himself. We decided not to bother with those. I aggroed him, fded, and waited for aggro to clear after he spawned the guards. We pulled two of the guards off of him, and then decided to split him off. Once I aggroed him again he, as expected, spawned the guards again. However, I did manage to tag him single, and bring him back to the raid.
If you don't kill all 3 guards first and decide to pull Carprin, keep in mind that he has a lot more HP than some of the other nameds in the cycle. We had 4 or 5 clerics and they mentioned that the fight was a big mana drain. He did go down pretty uneventfully then.
We went and decided to bring back the guards again since they had respawned. BIG MISTAKE. Once we killed all 3 of the nameds, having killed Carprin... guess who showed up again? That's right.. Carprin 2.0. We were not expecting him to make a comeback after having already killed him, and a few of the offtanks died. We recovered though (A very important part of this event is knowing how to recover if something unexpected happens, particularly with all the hard-hitters).
Once we killed Carprin, the raid fought to Carprin's room and moved up to the antechamber right before Avhi Escron's room. Clearing was uneventful, as was Avhi himself. No skeletons spawned after we killed him, since everyone remembered to kill pets, get rid of FD hotkeys, etc. Just kill him before he kills you I guess!
Biship Toluwon is next. The tricky part about him is that he is right next to the final 3 nameds, and you have to make sure your raid is crammed into the niche where he spawns or else you will aggro both Raex and the easier guard. Other than that, another unventful fight. Watch for adds if you needed to med or have a slow puller, they can wander in and they will make bad stuff happen if people don't focus.
Upon his death the guards spawn right next to the High Priest. Wait for them to path away! The other monk did the pulls on this one, and he accidentally aggroed both the guards and died. I got lucky and managed to single pull Vindor Mawnil (I believe that's the name of the easier guard?) after Raex stopped camping the monk's corpse.
Raex is by far the worst part of the event, in my opinion. He hits HARD, flurries like a swarm of killer bees, and has that nasty dot. Definately go full burn on disciplines. If you can pull him into Avhi's room, that is actually best (and we had deaths during Raex, and no skeletons spawned in that room, so that shouldn't be an issue) because of the lower likelyhood of adds.
We wiped on the first try, and ran back to CoD and had rogues drag corpses out for re-rezzing (don't forget that the nameds depop after a certain length of time, so be quick about recovery).
Fought our way back to Raex, this time we were much better prepared, didnt have any wanderers add, and, although we lost most of our offtanks to the rampage and flurry, we still lived, perhaps due to dumb luck :)
High Priest Ultor has quite a few hps, but besides that, as long as you are aware of that slowing attack he has, is pretty dang easy. Oh, and make sure your rangers don't go off aggroing any other nameds that might be in the tunnels please ;P That happened to us and we almost wiped again, but we made the ranger tank the add he brought (I believe it was warlord something or other) while we kept fighting the High Priest. He went down, we finished off the warlord, and got enough flags for the entire raid and a few alts.
Zoning into the place where the Bertoxx event starts didn't seem like a requirement for flagging - we didn't get any message for doing it. I had done Bertoxx before Carprin and my flags were all in order.
I apologize for the long entry but I just wanted to share my experiences from doing this event recently (last post was in 2005 anyway), from the perspective of a young PoP raiding guild.

Took him down today with 16 people. First time we zerged and wiped, second time had monk go in and actually single him from his 'friends' (good job) long fight but no one died. Only thing that sucked was he didnt drop anything...oh well, next time!
Killed him today with 1 Chanter lvl 70, that boxed a 67 cleric, and 1 warrior lvl 70
Carprin himself aint hard... the hard part was to split the adds from him first.
Pulled him zoned, the 3 guards stayed and he went back, Grabbed aggro on all 3 and killed em, then pulled Carprin and with 525mr i resisted all but 1 proc.

Confirmed it's level 70 today, conned white to a 70
his proc can be deadly to tanks, but never fear again
a bard in the tank's group playing psalms of veeshan will allow the tank to resist most if not all the procs, put two in, and virtually no proc of carprin's will land
just a tip...

Why would 2 bards in the same group be better than 1? Only one song (the highest level) one is going to affect the MT.
1 in the group for the Group resist song, and another in the raid playing the lesser Raid resist song might make sense... but the same bard song will not stack.

does anyone know the spawn time on him??

From what I've heard he's on a 3 day timer (+/- a couple hours I'm sure).
Every time you do this raid as an open raid its always a mad rush to get hails after HP is killed.
It is better to limit the raid to ONLY 36 unflagged people so that everyone can get flag. Have other groups that say they are flagged Meet INSIDE Codb so they can prove they have flag. This is how I got mine and it seems to be the best way to do it. we have 12 flagged people help us for a total of 48. It was a very succesful raid.

Did my run at it the first time the other night, and the way the leader did it was to have people say wether then needed a flag or not and put them on a list ... the first 36 people (which I ended up not being due to LDing and such before the list was full) get on the list, then those following get on a waiting list.
It might have been due to the fact that the raid started a lot later than planned (poor planning, inexperience, etc. contributing) thus making more people have to do other stuff ... but I ended up on the flag list before the end.
Might work for ya if you have the same problems of late starts and such.

Anyone know how offten this guy spawns?
----------------------------
Zultar TinkorportLast night we tried this guy 3 times, we tried mezzing and offtanking the first time with a raid of 36 people, all 60+ decent gear (most lvl 65 with epic) and we got lashed by the random Mem Blur and the extra mobs that spawned around us.
The 2nd and 3rd times we single pulled him using a bard and SK combo which worked very well.
If any have any ideas or more feed back about pulling and getting this guy down please post how you did it and the numbers etc you had :)

Posting from UKHad a cycling raid couple days ago and went very good. Was my first time pulling in CoD has a monk.
First you need to clear the trash mobs in room. Use a cleric or chanter to pacify mobs. This will save you some times and avoid agro on Carpin.
Once all trash mobs clear, its time to agro Carpin and FD asap. There is 3 named guards that will spawn around Him. Then, agroed one of his guard and run fast to the room before him. Room with water like slime. I had one of my raid partner waiting in the hall and ready to tag. Might be good to set a ranger. Because they can snare pull, invis camo while waiting etc. Carpin usualy go back to his spawn point faster than his 3 guards. Maybe i was just lucky.
Once you can tag the 3 named guards, bring them to zone in and have your raid clear them. Once thet all dead, The real Carpin will spawn at zone in. Kill him and your done with the first part cycling. When Carpin spawn at zone, he despawn from his original room.
Note : If you kill any 1 or 2 of Carpin's guard you will not be able to pull leftfor one single. You need to kill all 3 at the same time. If any of his guards get back to him while other one are dead, you will need to restart again. 3 new guards will spawn. Only 3 guards are up at once so dont worry, if you cant kill all on first shot you wont get more to kill on second attemps.

One note to add to this. When the 3rd of his 'friends' dies, Carprin spawns right there, right away. And starts attacking right away. No delays, nuthin. Make sure your healers are ready to go once the 3rd guy starts to get low.
Those who know might want to tell in more detail about what flag is given out after you slay him. From talking with my guild, you need his flag to slay Bertoxx. Will find out more in the days to come I'm sure =)

Carprin himself gives no flag, you have to complete the cycle of mobs that he starts. The last mob will be the High Priest.

Also drops Festering Earlobe. It's probably universal loot among mini-boss mobs here.
